Am I mad or is that spire grinning at me? and the three on the left seem to be awaiting my reaction.

Oh I'm probably feverish. I'm fighting something off. Either a cold or ebola.

Yeah, about that tower.

I never perceived the stone detail as a grin, I just saw the windows as two soul-less eyes staring balefully down at me from this ominous tower. Sort of goes with the whole Transylvania thing.

I thought that was very cool.

Now I can only see it as some ridiculous carved pumpkin clown face, staring down innocuously at me like something out of a Monty Python sketch.

AND I CAN'T UN-SEE IT!!!
(...insert image of crazed individual rubbing furiously at eyes with screwed-up fists here...)

Thanks...thanks a lot Tom Kitten...thanks for destroying my psychological balance...and making me question everything I have thought about the things we saw in Romania.

I hope you are happy now.

That tower looks like it doesn't belong where it is. There are some rather ornate pieces for a mostly simple stone castle.

The photo makes it look cold and foreboding.

It was absolutely freezing there. This was February, 2006, and Europe (especially the Balkans, Bulgaria, Romania, etc.) was experiencing near record cold temps. They had to run ice-breakers up the Danube for shipping that had gotten locked in by ice.

I've been going through photos from that trip which are now on a CD. Unfortunately, I erased the SD cards, and the transfer to CD apparently didn't retain enough information to be able to do much editing in anything other than b&w, and even that leaves a lot to be desired.

Ah well, live and learn...

just for a comparison. I will just comment now that I like the timelessness of the B&W, as well as how it seems to make it look so old...as it should.

Editted to say: Oh shit. I didn't look up before I posted this. The one with color is really nice, but all the spookiness is gone. It also looks much nicer than I thought it did, as far as the condition. And I didn't even realize that there was snow on it.

A shot I posted a few days back was of my youngest daughter sitting by some stained glass windows, inside a stone chapel/cell. That was taken inside this place.

See my edited post for my feelings about the color one.

I did see that picture of your daughter and the windows. This is a very nice place.

I've entered into to another bout of trying to improve my skills, and that includes on the processing end of things.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. That's really what I hope to get more of here.
