Spiritual Scale
Photograph by Kavya Reddy, National Geographic Your Shot
Thiksey Gompa, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery known for its resemblance to Lhasas Potala Palace, sits at 11,800 feet in the northern Himalayan region of Ladakh, India. The 12-story complex houses temples, a nunnery, and Buddhist artwork, including a 40-foot statue of Maitreya, or the future Buddha.

all is well, although it's a bit surreal seeing nearby businesses boarded up (some open, some closed) and when I pulled onto the parking lot at work in the wee hours of the morning, I was greeted by the presence of an Amoured Humvee parked there.
