Related: About this forumWell, it's been a heck of a bird day.
I went outside to check on what I thought was a package being dropped at the wrong door
again. But what I thought was a package being dropped was apparently this little fellow knocking himself silly on the window. I found him on his back, and thinking he was a goner, picked him up for a respectful disposal. Nope, he fluttered back to life and landed in a convenient spot for photos. Point and shoot in the macro mode this time. He was quite dazed, which allowed me to get right in his face, literally.

(43 posts)Stunning photos of the male of this species! They make up for their lack of sense with their extraordinary good looks
I always love seeing these little guys when I visit the western states. Thanks for sharing.

(402 posts)I've had birds hit my windows before also and actually was able to pick them up. Sometimes they recover, sometimes I find them under a bush a little ways from where I last saw them, dead as a door nail. Hopefully this little guy will be alright.

(2,012 posts)in Colorado but I got to see them when we stayed near Eureka in October. Amazing that they can live through all kinds of weather and "disasters." Thanks for the great pictures.

(90,789 posts)I had to get my yard ready for moving so except for a small throw away container all my bird feeding dishes have been cleaned and stored. Fewer birds coming around.
