I hope the new bridge holds up. There's been a lot of controversy over the construction.

2. My understanding is that there will be constant maintenance necessary

above and beyond what is normal because of inferior parts provided by China, and mistakes made during construction. Apparently there are some real issues with some critical bolts, as well as their installation.

Nice thing about this new span is that you can actually walk quite a ways out on to it because they put a pedestrian walk on one side. I hope to get out there when my leg heals and get some decent photos of the bridge and the Port of Oakland.

Thanks, you are one of the people on this board who consistently tries to find the good in things, and generally has something nice to say...even if you did create scandal by dropping the F-bomb a few years back!
