(130,980 posts)I haven't seen any this year. Neighbor of a friend has some, but I haven't been over there for weeks, so just dreaming about the fragrance!

(46,436 posts)I can't tell if ours are going to bloom this year or not. They don't usually flower until mid-June and even later for the Japanese lilac trees. I love them a lot.

(46,436 posts)And never bloomed, so we dug it up and planted it in full sun. We got good blooms the first year, less last year, but this year looks doubtful. It probably needs a proper pruning and fertilizer. The Japanese lilacs have done well ever since they were planted to replace our murdered Mayday tree three or four years ago.

Here's a picture of my Japanese lilacs with Son of Mayday or Mayday's Revenge in the background. It's gone kind of wild since our neighbors never bothered to train it, but it smells heavenly.

(20,886 posts)I have a deep reddish lilac, which manages to get one bloom each year. It was a cutting from a friend who is no longer with us so I savor that single bloom, while wondering why only one.
