Jupiter and Venus will merge into a dazzling super-star in the Western horizon by the end of June, NASA says. The conjunction of the two planets has been building during the month of June and will culminate in a spectacular display on June 30. Every night in June, the separation between Venus and Jupiter will visibly shrink, says NASA. A conjunction is when two or more objects appear very close together on the sky.

Anyone noticing this? I have, didn't know what it was. Will try to catch it, but won't be great due to my camera's limitations.

(5,113 posts)its a close conjunction but these happen every few years.
some scientists think the star of bethlehem was a similar conjuction in 2 2 bc,thats where the 2000 years comes from. there will be another, closer conjunction next year in august but i dont know if it will be visible from the US
either way it will be cool. if its clear i plan on having my camera and possible a telescope set up
if you want to try a cool shot try f 5.6,1/60th at iso 800 for a start, that may get you jupiter,4 of her moons and venus all in the same shot. jupiter and venus will be overexposed but that happens if you want the moons.
