Related: About this forumA stroll through Calistoga between rainstorms
Out for a walk in their best rain gear.
One side of the street (dominated by Susie's Bar).
The other side of the street.
The old bank building, which became a drug store, a shoe store and is now a wine tasting room
not to mention green.
Some nice places to sit, even in rainy weather.
A little trompe l'oeil.
City hall.
Texture.
And one for Solly Mack.

(20,886 posts)It mostly hasn't been Yuppified like St. Helena. There are actually restaurants that locals can afford.

(80,708 posts)I keep having to block 707 numbers because people call me by mistake.
But I've had it for so long I'm stuck with it. My wife still has a 650 area code.

(90,785 posts)I love the Susie's Bar shot and the Texture shot.
Thanks!

(20,886 posts)It's what I saw in my head when I shot it. But it just didn't work. It took that subtle color to really make that shot. And the orange does really enhance the meter cover. I've never seen a triangular cover like that.
Solly Mack
(90,785 posts)Which is, admittedly, odd.
I prefer the color in the texture shot. Adds layers I fear B&W might take away.

At first glance of the trompe l'oeil photo I thought what a lovely old home, I had to go back to realize it was not real, and spotted the horses

(20,886 posts)These are done by Carlo Marchiori. Below is a link to his house. If you're in the area, it's worth arranging a tour. Fabulous stuff. He also has a store/gallery on the other side of the building with the horses.

BIRD CAGE ROOM
When the door is closed, you can see that this is a birdcage from the viewpoint of the bird. The window shade represents a lettuce leaf, the headboard on the bed is a cuttlefish bone, the light fixture is the birds perch and of course the floor is also a painted to look like the bottom of a birdcage. On the wall features an enormous, golden-eyed cat. Guests wear canary-yellow pajamas!

(11,862 posts)What a wonder-full artist...thanks for the introduction to such wonder.
My only question is 'why isn't he a household name'?
A blind dog..he is humble and great at the same time, of course his humility could be for the camera...but I don't care.
He is a GREAT artist!

(20,886 posts)He's done commissions all over the world. There's a very nice book out on his house, which is available on Amazon. The book, not the house.
