here's a panorama that I took near Hope last week. This is Turnagain Arm which was experiencing one of the highest tides I've ever seen in that body of water.
My computer was so messed up, my tech guy said he'd never seen anything quite like it. Thanks, Windows 10. He had to create a whole new account for me and move each file into it individually. But he saved all my pictures, and for that I really love him.

(60,010 posts)It is an external hard drive you plug into the puter.
If the main puter dies, the drive can be used on the repair or a new puter, with no loss of date.
Doe not cost very much at all to get a HUGE amount of memory in an external drive.
Then you have pictures like the gorgeous one above all safe and sound.
I have all my e-books, music, pics and important documents on mine, plus a backup disc.
We get bad lightening storms down here, and I unplug the external drive during them, so if the puter gets fried, the important stuff stays safe.

(36,827 posts)I just upgraded my older one. My old one was pretty basic and simply stored my files via the network on mirrored drives. It was pretty slow, but it worked. The new one allows for access from anywhere on the internet if I so choose and is much faster. A single hard drive crash will not lose and data and if there's ever a problem it sends me an email.

I've had so many issues with Win 8 & 10. I thought 10 would clear it up, but alas, no. I turn my system off every night & some mornings it takes me 3-4 times before my system boots properly. It drives me fucking crazy. Sometimes I get this Policy Group Client services error & other times I don't. And when I do, the response to the error isn't consistent. Sometimes it logs me off & other times it goes ahead & boots. I've had Windows/Dell for years & never had a problem until this system.
I have a Win 7 system that I am not updating! I have to be very careful connecting to the Internet cuz fucking Windows wants to update it!
Sorry I hijacked your thread for a Window rant. It's easy to do, though, huh? Hope your system issues are resolved!

(46,436 posts)Win 10 will stop with that stupid prompt. If I can just keep it off my computer until then, I'll be safe. He also said that Microsoft will be supporting 7 until 2025, by which time I'll be almost 80 if I'm still alive. Maybe I'll have to learn a new operating system then, or maybe I won't even give a fuck, who knows?
