More from Melk (dial-up warning)

Last edited Tue May 29, 2012, 11:34 AM - Edit history (1)

I'm really milking this, I hope it's not too much.

First, the magnificent library. This was the only shot I dared to take in there. Photography is not allowed- I had to hold the camera behind my back so that the guard couldn't see what I was up to.

Now a bunch of views of the church interior.

A shot of two of my colleagues, taken in a room where Empress Maria Theresia used to listen to musical performances.

that you could be overdoing a posting of this beautiful place. Especially to us in America who do not exactly get exposed to such splendor created so long ago. I had Mom step up to the monitor, she lived in Austria before marrying my Dad, and she said that Kloster Melk is magnificent and in the center of wine country.

All of your photographs are amazing in what we get to take in, the library is a feat of a shot, I'm glad you got it and had the courage to take it.

BTW it is "Maria Theresia" there is that extra i in her name. How do I know? My school in Augsburg was named "Maria Theresia Oberrealschule".

Thanks for being so supportive and appreciative Mira!

A couple more shots-

there were some lovely wild poppies outside the walls of the monastery gardens

[IMG][/IMG]

a very peaceful inner courtyard garden-taken just before going into the church to play the concert. I had the place to myself.... Doesn't do justice to the wonderful evening light....

This is cool- a model of the abbey! It gives one a good idea of the scale of the place.

I got lucky and was able to visit it as well...

I have at least one picture that is very similar to yours.

Thank you for reminding me of this beautiful place!

Hey Solly Mack!

I got a few funny comments from my colleagues while lying down on the floor to get that ceiling shot.

You might find this aerial view interesting:

Thank you! That is cool!

My neighbors come out to watch while I wallow about on the ground and in the scrub after birds and bugs. I just smile and wave. I tripped the other day and landed on my back...but since I was down there anyway, I snapped a few shots. lol
