Texture

What I was really going for this morning when I encountered the birds, was texture and grain. (I was influenced by the opening credits on the new Netflix series, Marseille.) Here's one shot that pretty much had what I was looking for.

By the way, imgbox.com has a 10MB limit on photos. Had to change the resolution a bit to upload. Also DU seems to resize automatically when you post; Photobucket resizes to predetermined specs when you upload. I tried to post the imgbox bird photos at JPR and could only get thumbnails or REALLY big. Imgbox doesn't have an option to resize that I found, and JPR doesn't have an option to resize. I may go to Flicker.

2. I used a preset in On1

Which is actually a duotone. Then I tweaked the darker color to a dark redish orange. Possibly I like On1 because the settings are more like the print media I've used as a designer. In other words, duotones I understand. Filters, not so much.

Then another setting to intensify the grain.

Now I can see the subtle tones in the first.

In Tonality I can select color filters suitable to the subject.

Again, it was a preset, and I loved the richness of it. All I did on that one was add more grain.

Which is unfortunate since the full size gets downloaded.

DU's "standard" view resizes the larger images to 800x600 pixels.
If you change your account settings to "classic" view, you get something like "fit to window".

Flickr is a good option because you can link to an appropriate size and get faster downloads.
