(31,389 posts)and Emerald Isle, in particular, which is on the southernmost part of the Outer Banks, that folks here
call the Crystal Coast, to differentiate the Outer Banks north of Cape Hatteras.
We live in Chapel Hill--about a 3 1/2 hour drive from here--and this has been my favorite NC beach spot for the last 16 years we've
lived in NC.

(62,530 posts)I have friends from that area, no wonder they love it.
and as far as bigoted NC goes, that will eventually change. Some folks just take a little longer to come around. I have hope.

(17,199 posts)... mind you, my sum total of experience of the Atlantic coast is the Jersey shore, which is usually 50 shades of gray.

(62,530 posts)and I agree, the view of the water up there is more of a gray steel blue. Even in the Sound, it's a bit bluer but still a gray blue.
If I could deal with the snow (and outrageously high priced homes lol) I would move back just to be near the ocean.
but alas, I'm in land locked Austin. LOL and the coast is at least 3 1/ hours away.
cheers to you!

which Monet painted, it made me think about the light and color in Monet paintings.

(34,582 posts)I had on the Outer Banks (a little north at Atlantic Beach). I slept on the porch in a hammock all week. I would pound some beer, go to sleep around 2 AM or so, and wake up at 730 feeling fantastic. There is nothing like fresh ocean air. K&R
