Bugs

Hoverfly - often called flower flies or syrphid flies

They like flowers - good pollinators but they can cause a nasty disease (Myiasis). Rare in America but still found in the subtropics - where I live. Rare - remember that. I still check my dogs and myself after I see one. Look for mosquito bites. Hoverflies don't bite but they lay eggs on mosquitoes - which then transfer them to humans through their bites. Again - rare.

They have big eyes that take up most of the face.

They come in different patterns. Only one pattern here as only one Hoverfly.

Side view

They aren't unattractive - for flies.

That little black thing at the mouth? Yeah - its tongue.

Fiery Skipper - butterfly, family Hesperiidae

Kind of floats like a ghost

(But my preference would be: more zinnias!!)

Just kidding. They really are great photos. (But still, I really do love zinnias.)

They look sad. You can tell from the photos. Those are zinnias - badly beaten but still zinnias.

Thanks!

Maybe alfredo's zinnias are doing better.

not full blooms yet.

They'll recover. Zinnias are pretty resilient, no??

They leap, float, and land. When they're not flitting about, that is.

Thanks!
