OK, so my last post was about how we (I) might be obsessed with hardware instead of images
but there's trouble brewing in the full frame world. I wrote earlier about the EOS R and the Nikon Z full frame mirrorless offerings.
Panasonic, Sigma and Leica have formed a collaboration to offer a full frame system. If you are prone to carry hardware this large and heavy I think the decision on system just got easy--or will after tomorrow at Photokina. I've been reading about this for a few weeks and in the last few days every rumor site has virtually shut down over it.
Panasonic is to offer a new, FF system dubbed the S series. It will carry the Leica L mount, have close to 50 mpxl, IBIS and . . . wait for it . . . sensor shift to achieve 150 mpxl images. S#!t, even medium format cameras don't offer that resolution! Rumored price body only +/- $4,000. There will also be a 'consumer version' with a 20 mpxl sensor.
First offering of lenses: 24-70 mm, 50 mm and 70-200 mm.
Everything is preliminary now and full specs won't be released until 2019.
Sigma to make a FF body as well and lenses, adapters etc to cross pollinate with Leica, Sigma and Panasonic offerings.
Press release set for 12:30 Germany time tomorrow. Oh, and some other photo companies will talk about stuff too . . .
