I ended up hiking 59.5 miles in about three and a half days, the longest hike being 21.5 miles round-trip. As usual, I mainly went looking for petroglyphs.
This one has actually been dated. 5-6,000
All of the petroglyphs below this point are VERY old. It took a 9.8 mile hike up this canyon (one-way) to find them.
Looking back up the canyon as the sunset and we head back.

(149,678 posts)I love petroglyphs, but have only been out once, to China Lake.
Thanks for doing all that hiking for us!

(97 posts)Twice.
The second set I posted (the large panels with the jumping sheep) are only about 15 miles from there and are all Coso style .
I know of 8 Coso sites outside of the base, I've been to 5 of them.

(97 posts)I know a few of the Timbisha tribal members in the park. They know very little, however, they've clued me in on some sites.

(14,892 posts)I've hiked in Death Valley too, but you were far more ambitious than I was!
Were the spring flowers out yet? I seem to always miss the spring flower blooms!
