The color is true to what I saw last night. However, I used my little photoshop program to achieve it. I wanted to see if I could actually approximate the true color, and I was happy about the results.

So 'the moon waxes and wanes' means 'the moon grows and diminishes'.
As a kid I couldn't figure out what a bunch of waxes had to do with the moon.
