As you, my friends, might have noticed, Im in Germany for my brothers funeral and for family togetherness. These flowers from it were in my room for a couple of nights. Headaches ensued. Then these beautiful culprits moved to the entrance hall. I bet you can smell them...
Instead of an ordinary cemetery the burial of the urn is in a nature cemetery in a wonderful area that will allow a place under a chosen tree, where the internment will happen with professionals.
This is on our way choosing the tree. We chose a birch in a little clearing in a ring of chestnut trees.
Here are a couple of shots from the little town near the French border from where we drove up to the nature cemetery
On this one check the roof on the right
As you can tell it rained all day, which was not inappropriate for our sad task of choosing a grave site.
On the way home I spotted what might be the lair of Nosferatu.

Solar panels! Very smart.

(22,378 posts)It's where I lived from age 12 to when I got on the coal freighter in Rotterdam with two suit cases, at age 19, and emigrated to the US. I love Augsburg with all my heart, and feel like I knew every nook and cranny, and all the fast little rivers that run through it. I bet I rode my bike past the Kaserne where you might have stayed.

(1,262 posts)Have you been back to Augsburg? I'm trying to talk my wife into taking a vacation to Europe that would include a side trip to Augsburg.

(1,262 posts)I used to order a spezi (half beer, half Coke) to drink at Egon's.
Vesuvio's Pizza? I had pizzas delivered to my barracks more times that I can remember.
There was a gasthaus across the street from the west gate of Reese Kaserne.
Heimgarten strassenbahn stop?
Oh, the memories...

(22,378 posts)Show this part of your past to your wife. It will be unregrettable. and no, I don't know those places. I was young, and left at 19. I did not drink or smoke then.
Had no money for Pizza. Oldest of 7 kids in post war Germany. I escaped. Should write a book.
Please, please do it!
My mother did write down some of her memories just to tell her brother that he was wrong. We are very happy to have some memories in black and white, because else everything would be lost now.
