Sunrise series at the beach

THIS is one of the main reasons I come to this particular beach in October. Emerald Isle faces south, so from late fall through early spring the sun will both rise and set over the ocean here. Makes for great photo opportunities when there are clouds. This morning was one of those days. And yes, we are expecting rain later today.

I was focused this morning on using some of the tips for framing and cropping from the professional photographer who led one of the excursions I took on the cruise earlier this month.

Here are eight shots (out of 30) to show the progression of the sunrise and a few of the shorebirds. No editing for color.

These are all amazing. I would have to say that I prefer the first one--the sky and the dark sand frame the dawn perfectly!

But they're all beautiful.

10. Wow is right. It just kept getting better and better.

Often the colors fade out long before the sun rises, but this morning the intensity remained for a very long time.
