I am having SO much fun. Ocean is now completely overcast and was very threatening

a little while ago.

Took first shot with my phone. By the time I went in and got my camera, the lighting had changed quite a bit.

I love clouds and the lighting changes they bring. And thanks for an ocean view! I grew up, mostly, along the shore of the Atlantic and I do miss it at times. But I live in the Rockies now and clouds are very interesting here too. I need to be able to see wide open spaces like ocean or mountain ranges. I have quite a catalogue of cloud/mountain pictures.

Yesterday I went out for a drive and, for some reason, I decided not to take my camera. I don't have one on my phone yet. Where I ended up was a kind of overlook a couple miles from town where I look look into a vast wilderness with amazing peaks which are now a little snowy. There was a storm front working it's way into the region and I could see the clouds traveling by at quite a clip as the bottoms of them scarped against the mountain peaks. Since I was across a valley from the closest peaks and the storm's edge was between the mountains and my viewpoint, I got to watch as fierce squalls erupted at the highest elevations. The sun was creating visible rays through distant clouds which lit small areas of the peaks while snow blasted up and over them. As was able to detect motion made by the clouds as they encountered the grave change in terrain because they were moving rather fast, I noticed them change speed and altitude when they got to the peaks, kind of like balloons would move on a gentle breeze, it was magical. These picture reminded me of that! I watch clouds all the time but for some reason, they seemed to have a different feel yesterday and the lighting was indescribable.

Thanks for pics of the shore, I think I might get to go to the west coast during the holidays, at least I'll get a salt water fix but it's not like the Atlantic shore.

but I particularly love the mood they create over the wide expanse of the ocean.

I lived in southern California--near the coast--for 23 years. The Pacific Ocean just doesn't provide the variable moods that the Atlantic provides.

I resisted getting a smart phone for years. My son chose the one I have--a OnePlus--and the camera on it is amazing. Now I can't imagine being without it!
