I've finally figured out focus stacking. I was shooting 15 frames at different focal points and combining them. I kept getting a halo around the details. Turns out I only need to stack 7 frames as the camera had some images so out of focus that combining them created the halo effect. Fewer sharper frames work like it's supposed to. This was shot at f 2.8! 7 times!

(14,559 posts)My OMD does focus stacking in-camera. Turns out that may not be a totally good thing. I was stacking 15 images but kept getting halos on all the highlights. 15 is the max, so why not use it? Because the extra frames that were SO out of focus got combined and caused the halo effect.
The OMDs have some extraordinary features and a legendary complicated menu to go with them. Sometimes it seems that figuring out the menus can be a hobby in itself.

(4,999 posts)I have a sony rx100ii, which is my workhorse when I'm out hiking/backpacking. I have a lot of shots that would have been great but are out of focus. I simply don't have time to stop and review the shot... Some sort of focus stacking/bracketing would be awesome to have, and it looks like you're getting the hang of it quite well on your OMD.
