Trio of Swallowtails

I FINALLY got a shot of an Eastern black swallowtail to add to my shots of a Zebra swallowtail and Yellow Swallowtail that have previously been posted. This black never stopped flitting its wings and I didn't get a shot with its wings open.

Closed or open the wings of black are beautiful.

I enjoy butterflies but can't grow flowers of any kind 'cause the deer eat everything I plant. Butterflies can be quite territorial and will 'fight' to defend a favorite bush. It looks more like an aerial dance but the goal is to force the opponent to the ground. It's fascinating to watch and nobody gets hurt, just embarrassed at having to take off from the grass.

There are great colors showing.

And of course, the other two continue to be amazing as well.

Some persistence really pays off.

Not even outside, just looked up from fooling around on DU on my phone while waiting for a load of laundry to finish. Grabbed the camera and fortunately didn't scare it away as I went outside.
