(13,571 posts)It wasn't new; I was the second owner. In 1966, 9.5 percent of those delivered were that color choice.
The engine blew on the Pasadena Freeway. Oy.

(14,559 posts)It scared shit out of me. It keeps begging to go faster, to push the turns harder. Then you realize that if you finally enter the turn too fast and lift the throttle it goes seriously into over steer and things get unpleasant.
What a machine. Like caressing a viper. Seductive. Begging you to overextend your abilities.

(3,111 posts)... in a modified 911 that was probably of near the same vintage. This is my favorite car of all time and a friend of mine who knew I loved this car was unexpectedly driving one for a friend of his, so he came to take me for a ride. Same situation as you describe, a twisty road, no street lights... he went out in the country where he could go very fast. I thought I was going to die in that gorgeous machine!! Literally!! So much so, at one point I reflexively grabbed the arm of his shirt... overwhelmed with that feeling where you don't want to leave this earth without having a friend or family very near.
It was terrifying and thrilling... And I STILL love that car.

(3,396 posts)I was the service manager in a independent Porsche, VW shop that would work on almost any foreign cars.
You have no idea how many 911's we worked on & modified in the late 70's to the late 80's.
The 911 series was not a car for the masses, it was a real handful for those who were not really competent to handle a massive over- steering car with horsepower that most people had never experienced at that time in history.
Spectacular cars, but maybe 1 or 100 people were qualified to push them to their limits.
Great photos, Thanks!
