Hello, everyone!
The theme for DemocraticUnderground's October Photo Contest will be "100 Paces". Your entry should be taken from within 100 paces of your place of residence, which for the purposes of our contest will be defined as your home or long term dwelling if you are on business assignments. (I will be very jealous if the Eiffel Tower shows up in the background, though, so be warned.) If you own multiple homes, just choose one. Please take the picture outside, or in an outbuilding, but no studio shots in the attached garage. 100 paces is about 300 feet for the average person, so don't feel limited to your property.
I will open submission and comment threads on the 12th, with the goal of launching the preliminary contests on the 16th. I hope to wrap up the contest by the 24th so everyone can enjoy the upcoming end of the month holidays! I'd usually prefer to give everyone more time and two weekends to get their photos, but it is 100 paces, after all. Get to it!
Since I can't enter, some inspiration, all taken 10 paces or less from my door!
Submissions will open at 9pm Eastern tomorrow, 10/12/12 to allow our West Coasters to get home and do their thing.
I've enjoyed seeing all your trial photos.

(11,861 posts)Does the photo have to be from the place in which we currently live? I'm guessing yes, which nixes all of my photos from the time I lived in Mexico.

(17,132 posts)That would be my preference. The intent of the theme is to find new subjects for the contest. I didn't prohibit using archived photos, but I hope folks will try to do something new.

(10,618 posts)I'm away from home, spending the next two weeks with my daughter's family, but there are a lot of interesting photo opportunities that could be taken right from her deck. Since I won't be back home till after the deadline, I won't be able to enter otherwise.
