Related: About this forum!Photo Group! OM Systems says that while there are some shortages in the supply chain
they do not anticipate any delays in new product (after, what? two years) once they have something to deliver.
There are two possible announce dates; when they re-open the Japanese web site sometime this month and at the CP+ show (last week of Feb).
I've never seen a company keep so quiet about what's coming. Usually there are rumors and leaks but here there is butkus. Lots of possibilities, none of which are associated with OMS. A stacked sensor, a cell phone censor with 100 mega pixels that clusters pixels to control noise, a square sensor with a dedicated function button to switch from horizontal to vertical format (I'd like that, no more awkward hand positions) and AI computational capabilities. Who knows? OMS ain't talkin'.
If I were a betting man I'd lean toward a stacked sensor and AI computation. A stacked sensor offers a LOT in the way of dynamic range, noise control and rolling shutter. Maybe even a universal shutter. Such a sensor would erase any advantage a full or mid format sensor has to offer (until the other sensors make the move too). A 4/3 sensor would have the advantage of cost savings making the camera more affordable than a FF, probably 1/2 the price which is still expensive for a micro 4/3 camera.
Once you get into computational photography the sky is the limit for user customization. Hell, put wheels on the tripod and tell it, "Go, take some pictures I'd like . . .". Oly has been dabbling in AI comp for a long time. It's been in the jpg generator all along which is why Oly users don't shoot raw that often. AI is what the digital 2X is: take a 5mp image and enlarge it to 20mp using AI to figure out how to fill in all the empty pixels and then mess around with sharpness, noise control, and such. Then there're the 'scene' modes which are refined on the EM10 Mk I thru IV. I have a contact that would like to tell me more but is under an NDA. *sigh* He'll be able to tell me how it came about IF it's going to be. Like I said, never saw such a leak proof organization.
The one thing OMS has going for it is that Zuikophiles aren't so much loyal as cultish. They have been able to keep us interested and placated for almost a year and a half with a facebook page, youtube videos, monthly how-to videos, lectures by Olympus (now OMS) ambassadors and educators. Paid employees to keep attention on the product even though there isn't anything new!

(14,559 posts)because of the quality and innovation in the product but also for the history and corporate culture. Mr. Miatani MADE Olympus. The history of the camera division is the history of Miatani's career there. For a brief time the company stayed from his design philosophy (during the E series years) and although I used several E cameras it just wasn't the same as handling an OM. When the first OM D EM5 was announced I didn't even read the specs I just whipped out the CC and ordered one. Although the EM1 is my go-to I still love the feel of the EM5. If they were to introduce a Pen F with similar performance to the EM5 mk III I'd do it again.
There's just something about the way they fit in your hands.
