(5,253 posts)I think I've said this here before but my favorite moon phases (as much as I so love it when full) are when there's a bit "missing" and you can clearly see that it's a little planet of its own. Your pic captures that perfectly. Another masterpiece!

(149,308 posts)I understand what you're saying. I too love the full moon, but the waning and waxing phases have a beauty all their own.
The craters are 3-dimensional then and I have so much fun getting them to show.

(5,253 posts)I went out and took a bunch of star photos on Saturday night with which I was happy, but your moon photos never ever cease to make me smile. And you're right - the craters do seem to have more of a dimension when the moon is not full. I love the gibbous/crescent phases because something about them - even without high res like yours - makes the moon look more real, if you know what I mean.

(149,308 posts)I think the fact that there might be less compression here on DU, than there is on Facebook, means that the photos here have that certain something that might be lacking on Facebook.
