The British people are so polite... 'The Repair Shop'

So I've been watching the British TV show 'The Repair Shop' on Netflix.. It's also in rotation on the Discovery channel. The craftsmen and women on this show are incredibly talented IMO, and to me at least, it's fascinating to watch them as they work to repair and restore family heirlooms and treasured antiques..

Outside of the craftsmanship on display in the show, what really struck me was how polite everyone is with each other.. so refreshing to see as a contrast to the land of Karen and Chad's we live in today..

1. I hadn't heard of the show

Until a recent episode of…. I think it was BBC’s “Outlook.” But it sounded like a wonderful show and I’m looking forward to checking it out this weekend.

4. I Discovered This Show A Couple Of Weeks Ago And Now I'm Addicted To It......

It calms me down to watch it. I'm blown away by the patience these expert restorers have when they are working on a restoration.

Some do some very detailed work. They are meticulous in their workmanship. And they take great pains to make a repair to an item so one cannot even tell where some of the repairs have been made. They'll restore a 100 y/o antique and it will look like it was brand new and just made. Incredible.

I myself rewire, make repairs and design lamps. Many of the lamps I've made are fashioned from some everyday items or antiques.

From watching this program (The Repair Shop) I'm learning new techniques to use when making repairs like: cleaning rust; finishing wooden items; gluing; painting; polishing metal; etc. I'm also learning about the tools that these craftsmen use in their restorations. They are all experts in their own right.

Since I started watching this program it has inspired me to restore and make even more lamps.

The problem I have is that it looks like this program ran for many seasons and they have made many episodes. I currently have a backlog of about 46 episodes that I still have to watch. I can't watch them fast enough before they are running additional episodes. I get to watch two or three episodes - and when I check my DVR again - four to five more episodes have been recorded. I can't catch up and I'm running out of space. Help!!!

5. I love this show.

As a person who makes useful things, from wooden geared clocks, to hand-forged knives, to muzzle loading firearms, it fills my need to see quiet competence and love for other craftsmen's work.
I like to sit and bask in the glow.
