The Newsroom "Amen" aired 7/22/12 ****Spoiler Alert**** RANT

What I disliked most about this episode was Lisa throwing a tantrum like a crazy lady after waiting for an hour in a restaurant.

She is first loosely portrayed as an 'airhead' type with her terrible boyfriends(who steal Maggie's meds) but hey maybe she's just had bad luck, she is after all the one on the phone to help Maggie through her panic attack. When we first 'meet' her at the new year's eve party her 'goodness' is again 'validated' through her reluctance to get fixed up with Jim. Then we see her and Jim dating, albeit casually, so now he is going to do the right thing and take her out on valentine's day, after being scolded by his subordinate and love triangle interest Maggie.

TV sitcom stuff happens and he screws up, Lisa seems to have an unrealistic view of their hookup relationship so she goes a bit nuts and storms into his workplace yelling and swearing. So much for her 'bad luck' and her being a good person, she seemed reluctant to get involved with Jim at the party because of what we expect Maggie has said about him (confessed desires/admiration?). Then on the dating aspect Lisa expresses her concern about Maggie's feelings again, so she seemed like a good egg plus Maggie seems to like her.

Fast forward to valentine's day and who is this nut job? Only on a tv sitcom would someone unsure of their relationship yet wanting it to grow more march into their significant other's place of work and act like a nut yelling and swearing in front of everyone they worked with even worse when Jim is the #3 'boss'.

All is forgiven when Maggie, Jim's subordinate once again flaunts his authority, she's done this before very publicly, to 'save' him from Lisa the nut aka Lisa her roommate aka Lisa her supposed 'friend'. All is then right in the world because Lisa forgives him for leaving her waiting for an hour on valentine's day at a restaurant w/o any explanation of all the crap that happened at work that day which led to him doing that, oh and the phone switch up which she blew completely by.

For me Maggie disrespecting Jim's position as 3rd in power but more importantly as her boss has been a sore point as well.

So that's what I really disliked about this episode, that and Don plus Neil being idiots and hurting themselves like stupid male cavemen when they get angry/worked up. I think one of them doing something macho/angry robot stupid would have been enough.

What bugged me the most about this was the Mohammed Nabbous-style "reporter" that they represented. If this show starts shitting on Libya after inventing a "Mohammed Nabbous" I will be enraged and go to IMdb and just pitch a fit, because it's bullshit.

I dunno why Sorkin loves these very on the edge romances with unrealistic reactions and behaviors, but that's just how he is.
