(8,352 posts)Are you planning on jumping into every discussion of the new Doctor and push a political agenda?
I expect so.
Behind the Aegis
(53,938 posts)Homophobia isn't the only nasty shit we in the gay community face. Thanks for re-confirming.
TM99
(8,352 posts)that you can never imagine here.
But I don't want to devolve this thread any further. Let's get back to talking about the Doctor instead.
Behind the Aegis
(53,938 posts)Read up on heterosexism and heteronormative behavior.
TM99
(8,352 posts)so much that you project so many fears and such rage on others.
I have never been a 'heterosexist' either, but if it makes you feel better, go on telling yourself that it is so.
Behind the Aegis
(53,938 posts)If you feel you are knowledgeable instead of set in your ways, well, that will help you. It would likely explain your poor diagnosis.
TM99
(8,352 posts)Yeah, I understand projection very well.
You seem to crave change simply for the sake of change. You, therefore, think that anyone who might want any kind of tradition and doesn't always need constant 'newness' is somehow set in their ways.
You brought 'gayness' into these discussions on Doctor Who. If anyone doesn't support your ideas and wishes, then we are heterosexist, homophobic, set in our ways, etc. That's a script you are carrying around and repeating with me and others. You can now tell yourself that, see, another bastard who is against my sexuality like so many others have likely been in your past.
Trauma's and shame hurt. I see it daily. I have also experienced it. I am not your enemy just because I don't agree with what you might be saying and why you are saying it.
So truce. Enjoy the show.
Behind the Aegis
(53,938 posts)You think you know the script, but no, you don't have a scintilla of a clue. That is very obvious. But we do agree, you aren't my enemy because you disagree with me, that is part of your script, not mine. Again, I suggest you do some serious reading. You can now tell yourself, you have another sad, angry victimized gay incapable of making sense of the world; that will help.
I am not interested in a truce, as none is needed, but I do realize your parody script and strawmen will never result in an actual conversation, and will simply result in more barbs; so enjoy...and don't forget to watch Dr. Who.
Still Blue in PDX
(1,999 posts)The Doctor needs to be a bit more grown up than he's been written and portrayed for the past few years.
Behind the Aegis
(53,938 posts)I also saw a number of people arguing against it. They felt the younger Doctor's attracted new fans. But others felt he needed to be more mature in order to have more serious storylines (which I admit, I didn't understand that caveat).
TM99
(8,352 posts)and they have never had a problem attracting new fans no matter what their ages. So trying to market to the youth with someone young in this case likely backfired.
Smith simply could not pull off the same gravitas and act convincingly that he was a nearly 1000 year old alien man. Tennant and Ecleston could do so.
One of the few nice things about growing older is that experience does give us more knowledge and if we are lucky a bit of wisdom. I will not miss Smith though I wish him well in other acting pursuits.
Behind the Aegis
(53,938 posts)I never cared for Smith. Maybe he will learn from his experiences, and not become set in his ways.
TM99
(8,352 posts)As I said in another thread, Matt Smiths 'immaturity' and goofy humor simply got to me. He has been my least favorite Doctor, and that is saying something as I started watching Doctor Who in the early 1970's.
I am very happy that he is 55. I expect him to bring a different sort of humor, gravitas, and a bit of aged experience that will serve well in his portrayal of a 900 year old alien.
I am very excited to see where things are going now. Moffat's push to make Doctor Who a kid's show might actually come to end with Capaldi as the choice. Seeing Clara, the Doctor, and the little kids turn the Cybermen into a joke was very sad. Cybermen and Daleks haunted my dreams as a child. They were terrifying and should remain so.
A toast to the new Doctor.

(1,999 posts)Okay, I'm shallow. I'm American. I'm a fan girl, albeit an almost 60-year-old one, but I started watching during the Tom Baker years and have seen all the Classics I could lay my hands on through Netflix and the public library.
I'm looking forward to Christmas.
