Related: About this forumI hate you A&E!
I just read that they have cancelled Longmire! Such a good series and the channel's highest number of viewers and they let it go. Meanwhile they keep a crap thing like Duck Dynasty and the rest of those stupid shows.
The production company is going to shop the show to other channels, so hopefully it will be picked up. Of course the this season was left on a big cliffhanger. This reminds me of HBO and what they did with Deadwood.

(38,506 posts)I agree with you, though, it's a good show and I hope some other channel picks it up.

(1,945 posts)Yes, the first two are on Netflix so far. I would think that they'll pick up season three also. So disappointing!

(102,283 posts)Longmire Cancelled By A&E, Will Be Shopped Elsewhere
In its second season, Longmire averaged nearly 6 million viewers, up 9% from Season 1. Longmires viewership has dipped so far in Season 3 to 4.6 million viewers, but its lead-in, Criminal Minds repeats, is a lot weaker (-72%) than the series lead-in last year, original drama The Glades. The cancellation of that series got a strong reaction from fans; the axing of Longmire, which has a wide fan base, will likely not go well with them either. Longmires audience skews older than some other A&E dramas like Bates Motel, but it brings more eyeballs than any other scripted show on the network. Even with the decline, Longmire logged A&Es largest viewership for any series this year behind only flagship Duck Dynasty.
There has been a drive at A+E Networks (as well as other cable network groups) to own a large portion of their scripted programming, which was also the impetus behind the launch of A+E Studios. Both Longmire and The Glades came from outside suppliers, Warner Horizon and Fox TV Studios, respectively.

(1,945 posts)I never watched The Glades but I know it was really popular and people were upset when it was cancelled. I don't know anything about Against the Wall. But when I'd watch Longmire and see the commercials for the other shows on A&E I would always think 'I hope these shows don't go outside of the US'. I am so embarrassed to think that people in other countries see this crap as representative of Americans or even just what we want to watch.
The little bits of what I've seen of those shows is all people that appear to be ignorant, yelling at each other, acting like fools, etc. What enjoyment can anyone get out of watching that stuff?
And they cancel Longmire and The Glades. smh

(22,256 posts)Now Longmire.
I hope Netflix or another network picks them both up. I also saw that the star of Glades has been cast in a new show on USA network.
Even if we just had a TV movie somewhere that gave closure on The Glades that would help

(103,856 posts)Longmire was a good show, but it was one that required attention span, and apparently A & E and many other networks are looking for the all-important demographic...12-15 yr old boys with short attention spans
Longmire would be a good fit for TNT or Lifetime.. Here's hoping they pick it up.. The stars on it are not big-ticket actors, and the location is not that tricky

(88,117 posts)I was looking it up because LMN used to have movies during the day. Some were good, some were not....but they were mostly movies. Now LMN during the day is Killer Kids and other similar shows..all day long.
I have noticed changes on Lifetime also.
Longmire would fit into USA or TNT very well. Fingers crossed someone picks the show up.
Yes, Satisfaction has surprised me. Kind of strange, but good acting and interesting plot.

(48,217 posts)they stopped showing British, Australian, and Canadian dramas and arts documentaries and switched over the all crap, all the time.
It was on A&E in the old days that I discovered such great British series as "Tenko," "A Touch of Frost," "Midsomer Murders," "Silent Witness," "Dalziel and Pascoe," "The Ruth Rendell Mysteries," and "Halifax, FP" (the last one is Australian).
Even earlier, do you know that Bravo started as a channel specializing in foreign films?

(1,945 posts)I definitely remember when you could go to A&E and Bravo for interesting programming vs network crap. They were 'down' at the end of the list of stations on the cable we had then, along with Sundance channel and IFC. You could usually find something decent to watch among those channels.
I had mostly given up watching tv for awhile and then went to A&E to look for something and was shocked at all the crap that's now there. Same for History Channel, Discovery etc. Who watches all this junk? (When I stayed with my Mom for a week it was like torture as all she wanted to watch was 'Pickers' (American Pickers I think?) and the Pawn shop guys. Her excuse is that she's 88 and her mind is going! sigh)

What finally turned her off to CNN was after Michael Jackson died. She barely knew who he was and got annoyed at the three days of 24/7 coverage.
