Both premiere Sunday evening.

(16,104 posts)"True Detective" Season 2 starts Sunday, too. Rachel McAdams may be the stand out this season.
All three are on HBO 'must see TV' now!

(48 posts)I'm just 3 episodes into Catastrophe but am enjoying it, and I don't usually have much patience for rom-coms.
Sense8 is one I haven't started yet, but am looking forward to, even though the Wachowskis have been hit and miss for a while. I'm hearing good things from the people I know who've checked it out. JMS is going to be writing Red Mars for Spike (of all networks), so I kind of need this be evidence he will do a good job adapting Kim Stanley Robinson's story.

(7,429 posts)I liked The Brink. At least that was a comedy. What was Ballers??
True Detective was OK. I thought it took too long to get the 3 main actors together. Oh and Collin Farrell was doing some of his best acting I've seen. And Vince Vaughn was the old Vince. Not the comedic one-liner Vince we've seen lately. This is a great departure for him and made me like him again as an actor. Can't wait for more of the show. I wish The Brink was on before Ballers, because then I could get some sleep!! Oh wait I have John Oliver at 11p. Darnit!

(31,177 posts)The Brink was over-the-top impressive. Very fresh -- I loved it. I wonder how they're going to keep up the comedic intensity beyond a few shows, not to mention the production values. It's very expensive looking.
Ballers needs time for character development. Athletes in retirement is a great concept. I liked the pilot and the characters and look forward to seeing how the storyline develops.
Both or these are really creative and a refreshing change from usual the cop/detective/homicide genre.

(135,425 posts)A fun cast.
Ballers reminds me of Arliss with a bit more color in the main roles, which works for me just fine.

(4,019 posts)I also like Timothy Robbin's character. He's hilarious!
The writing on this show is top notch, hope they can keep it up. I saw where there is some sort of campaign to stretch each episode to one hour, but I think 1/2 is just right.
Oh any my gosh, I can't get enough of Z Pack and Jammer!

(22,000 posts)I'm a bit surprised. I have been watching both Ballers and The Brink. Though I like both, I was thinking neither had a chance for renewal. Maybe they'll do a few more episodes for season two, like 10 or 12 instead of 9.

(16,104 posts)"The Brink" is too manic cartoonish - but still watchable.
"Ballers" is hilarious! Dwayne Johnson is perfection!
And the cast of 'footballers' is spot on!
It's like "Miami Vice" on steroids! Only agents and brain-wrecked talent, instead of cops and robbers.
If you like football, "Ballers" shows us life off the field in all its glory, just like we imagined it!

(16,104 posts)We see a variety of characters in stages as Buchanon describes. He could be consulting on the storylines!
Money - and the lack thereof - changes everything!
