Crisis standards of care in #Arizona.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

A physician friend in Phoenix with a large #Arizona hospital system has informed me of the following.

A 🧵…1/4

Starting tomorrow, they will be down as many as 9-10 hospitalists every day through the first week of January.

And they held a crisis standards meeting yesterday specifically outlining how decisions would be made to stop care on certain patients.

2/4

No patients over 85 will be eligible for Critical care dialysis (known as CRRT) and those over 75 will have to meet certain criteria in order to be eligible.

All CRRT must be stopped after 5 days, unless it is appealed by a treating renal specialist.

3/4

There will be a “utilization review” committee that will basically override the doctors caring for the patient and say that the treating team must discontinue treatment or transition to comfort care.

This IS a major hospital system. We are in serious trouble in #Arizona.
