According to an alert, residents near that part of Interstate 10 (east of Houghton, west of Kolb, north of Valencia, and south of Voyager) should take shelter immediately. Also, turn off any machines that bring in any outside air, like air conditioning and heaters.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — UPDATE: 4:55 a.m.

Unified Command has reinstated the shelter in place around that one mile-perimeter of the incident.

We're told more gas was released as crews attempted to remove the load from the wrecked vehicle.

Unified Command says they expect extensive closures.

last night the west bound detour was going through Vail to Houghton, then to Valencia back to I 10. this morning early it was going up Rita Road and over to Valencia etc, but by the time we (and dozens of wide load trucks that must have been camped out the last couple days?) got to the Rita Road exit, everything was open again.

it would amuse me greatly if enough of the fumes got to and eventually ruined the painting on the water tower.

Above the legal limit of .04% for commercial drivers

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner has released autopsy and toxicology reports for the truck driver involved in February's nitric acid spill on I-10, revealing he had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.312% at the time of the crash.

The legal BAC for most drivers over 21 is .08%—for commercial drivers, it's .04%. The medical examiner confirmed with KGUN 9 the the high BAC was due to the driver's consumption of alcoholic drink(s).

Driver Ricky Immel died in the Tuesday, Feb. 14 crash that led to a shut down of the interstate and a shelter-in-place order due to fumes from the nitric acid that Immel was transporting when his truck overturned.

Immel was the only person who died as a result of the crash. His service dog, which was riding with him at the time, escaped the cab of the overturned truck and was found and reunited with Immel's family in the days following the incident.
