My back yard was covered in hail accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain for 20 minutes or so. Citrus trees are very happy. The temp must have dropped 30 degrees or more during the rain. Our first monsoon of the season.

Just some pretty good wind in North Phoenix. Could see clouds to the south, and there was a thunderstorm to the north, but nothing's breaking through the heat island yet.

11. Monster monsoon storm hits Tucson with damaging microburst

The first major monsoon storm to hit the Tucson metro area Monday evening produced a microburst that damaged homes and toppled power poles in the Catalina Foothills.

“There was definitely a microburst that happened in the Catalina Foothills and it caused a lot of the damage,” said Kevin Strongman, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Tucson. “A microburst is basically a sudden collapse of the storm’s core, pushing all the cold air and winds from 30,000 feet all the way down.”

More than 30 electrical poles were knocked down as a result of the storm, Tucson Electric Power said. Some 20,000 customers lost power across the metro area and about 5,000 still had none late Tuesday morning, the utility said.

The storm dropped .45 inches of rain at Tucson International Airport. And 1.72 inches of rain was recorded near East Sunrise Drive and North Swan Road. Both areas reported hail.

13. it started raining just before the 8 or 9 fire trucks pulled out of here

they were here spending a lot of tax dollars on the ranch that probably wasn't needed. the fire did get out of hand to the north, but where it was on us...

yesterday after I kind of said, why waste all these resources on rangeland that probably just needs to burn they said there was concern about smoke on the interstate. yeah ok and yet it stayed smokey for both days anyway. I want to find out how much this cost. and the portion that was actually on the ranch especially.

anyway we got 42/100 so that was a good if somewhat late start. and didn't just wash all the ash down right away.

I want to post some pix but I am getting sleepy again. the heat is just brutal and hard to jump in the pool when a couple dozen firefighters in full gear are hanging around.

you might get a kick out of this, though -

here is their history - https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/angeles/fire/?cid=FSEPRD643547
