Air conditioned home to air conditioned car to air conditioned workplace to air conditioned store back to air conditioned home. Now what they did before the 1950s I don't know. Of course no one lived in AZ before then.

We'd stop and get a bag of ice, put some into Ziploc bags, put one on the head, one in the bra, and one across the back of the neck. It worked! We survived it!

But it was definitely an experience I wouldn't want to repeat.

You can very easily burn yourself on the steering wheel in summer in Texas, whether it's humid or dry; it's still HOT.

two days ago when I got into my car.....parked in the shade! Whew!
it was a hot one. Today only got to about 95 degrees...so much better.

and the car is orange with a black interior. I find it's a great way to get varmints out of any wool I suspect they've gotten into. The heat inside the car kills all the wool eating bastards: insects, eggs, larvae, pupae.

Yeah, it looks dumb but it keeps the wheel comfortable in both hot and bitterly cold weather. We get both in the high desert.

There was never anybody around, anyway. And it was near Sedona. Just slipped the clothes on whenever we had to stop.

El Centro is 100 ft below sea level and it is 105 at 9 o clock at night.

10 in the morning and I don't even have my air conditioning on, in El Centro you never turn it off.

But you are right about the steering wheel if the car stands in the shade for 4 hours, too hot to handle without a towel, but I like your idea better.

My favorite half-day trip on my motorcycle would be to the top of Mt Lemmon
for a piece of pie and then home.
.
During the fall months (before they shut the road other than to residents), I
NEVER failed to forget my gloves and would spend the last few miles of the
trip riding one-handed -- alternating my hands between my legs to guard
against frostbite.
.
.
That's my story and I'm, um... sticking to it.
.
.
.
OH!!! Riding through the White Mountains in my car on vacation inspired
me to give up my 35-year boycott on riding (due to a horrendous accident).
.
That road reminded me of the joy of riding -- I went out and bought a Honda
Shadow Spirit 1100cc the day after I got back.

Ski in the morning in the Mountains, and take a dip in the afternoon when you are in the Valley. Talking Tucson mind you.

That was the coolest part of my first winter there. I could stand on my deck down on the Valley floor, in a T-shirt and watch the snow fall on the Mountains!
