KGUN9:Grassroots effort claims racial profiling at BP checkpoint

ARIVACA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - In a grassroots effort to shut down a local border patrol checkpoint, Arivaca residents say they have proof agents are breaking the law.

The border patrol checkpoint on Arivaca Road is about 25 miles from the border. The temporary checkpoint has been in place about seven years and many residents who go through it everyday say they've had enough.

The group, "People Helping People," is taking matters into its own hands.

In February, they initiated a checkpoint monitoring campaign they said is meant to deter abuse from agents.
