Cochise Co Sheriff's investigating body found on Dragoon Road

DRAGOON, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - The Cochise County Sheriff's Office was advised of a possible dead body at the Triangle T Ranch east of Benson on Saturday morning.

The caller said there was a body about 300 yards onto his property in the driveway and covered in a sleeping bag.

The caller also told authorities that the body was a man who appeared to be African American or Hispanic.

Deputies and detectives arrived on scene and noted there were no signs of obvious trauma to the body.

Family of man dumped in Dragoon had heard from his smuggler

BY CHRIS DABOVICH chris.dabovich@bensonnews-sun.com Aug 2, 2016

<snip>

“Initial investigation indicates that the deceased subject suffered some type of medical condition while travelling through the area in the above mentioned vehicle and the other occupants dumped the person, either still alive or deceased, and then left the area,” the news release stated.

That was confirmed by the man’s family in Puerto Vallarta, located along the Mexican Riviera in the state of Jalisco, who reached out to the News-Sun after having read the newspaper’s online report. The News-Sun connected the family with Mexican Consulate and Cochise County Sheriff’s Office authorities who then confirmed the man’s identity as Ramon Contreras. He had been en route to Utah, his brother said, noting he had been traveling with a false identity.

“...We received a phone call from the coyote [smuggler] saying that Ramon had some kind of heart attack and that he was dead,” the victim’s brother relayed via email. “He said that they were dropping him out of their truck, and Ramon had a fake ID with a different name, that’s what we knew last time we spoke with Ramon. And your [News-Sun] article in particular sounds like the same story we been told from Ramon’s coyote.”

<snip>

“Unfortunately that was our brother. We are in contact with sheriff now and we have sent a picture to them and they have verified as well,” family members said.

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - The Arizona Department of Public Safety has released video captured by a commercial truck driver of the chain of events in which a car swerved to miss a mattress and ended up colliding into the side of a mountain and then rolled over.

DPS says on Wednesday at 11:18 a.m. on westbound I-10 near Dragoon, a green Ford, driven by Briana Disaia, 23, of Texas, swerved to avoid a mattress that was lying in the left traffic lane.

The pickup driver in front of Disaia was able to see the mattress and avoid it.

DPS says Disaia was following too closely and failed to see the mattress early enough to give herself the time to appropriately react.

I probably would blend with the trucks.

Her survival is outstanding evidence of effective regulation.
