Phoenix cancer charity worker who stole nearly $200K gets 2 years in prison
The former finance coordinator of a cancer-support charity was sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling nearly $200,000 from the charity over several years.
Melissa Talal, 42, pleaded guilty on July 20 to one count of theft and two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, court records show.
She was sentenced Friday by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Reinstein.
Talal took a job in 2006 as finance coordinator for a small non-profit called Wellness Community Arizona, now known as Cancer Support Community Arizona. She also worked at the same time as treasurer for the Arizona PTA.
