a limited observation on local Arizona wing nuts

so, I live in a white rural area with a large Mormon population and there are a lot of repukes in the area. I see the occasional confederate flag and trump bumper sticker, but for the most part they aren't too obnoxious.

this weekend I had occasion to visit Show Low and environs (also fairly rural and Mormon). right on the main street is an over-the-top display of flags and trump paraphernalia. in fact it is a fucking trump retail outlet. I didn't bother to take photos, I assume it has been covered in the news. my observation was the vastly larger number of blatant, no-shame supporters out there driving around.

As well, I came across this interesting business display out in a rural development. A nursing home flying these flags!

yes, even the confederate flag has been defaced with "in god we trust"

for anybody that knows - is that cross flag normal or is it a Klan flag of some sort?

I guess bigots and racists need nursing care too, but I was pretty much just

EDIT: looking at google maps/satellite it kind of looks like the flags might be in a separate residence down that driveway. I might be wrong about the connection to the business. I don't want to impugn a reputation if they don't deserve it, but still...WTF?

Used to have to carry it while singing "Onward Christian Soldiers" when I processed down the aisle at the fundy church my parents sent me to when I was little.

I laid off church for many many years. I had to take anxiety meds when I was a kid due to the stories they filled my head with. I do go to church now, mainly as a community social activity, and there is no cross or flag of any kind in our meetinghouse or our Christian ed building

current Presbyterian church. Those others would be the United Methodist, Church of the Nazarene, Bible Fellowship, and Bible Presbyterian. I don't remember seeing it in the Catholic or Lutheran churches I've attended. According to Wikipedia, it's an ecumenical flag which became popular around 1942.

Here's what I found as the UMCs rules for displaying the Christian flag along with the American flag in churches.

I may have had a similar upbringing. Sounds like we both escaped.

It's very red, population about 15,000, but the people are nice and I don't bring politics up with people I don't know. One morning at Walmart I did get into an argument with a woman about global warming and vaccines, but the next time we saw each other we just sort of smiled and she taught me about how to tell male peppers from female peppers. Right now there is growing tension between the Conservatives and the Tea Party because of recent changes on our town council. I've been here since 2002 but I still don't completely understand the politics here. We do have a Democratic Party Headquarters! But we (NOT ME) keep voting for Paul Gosar, which defies comprehension.
