L.A. County supervisors enjoy multiple car washes per week amid drought

http://www.sfgate.com/news/science/article/Supervisors-enjoy-multiple-car-washes-per-week-6466854.php

Most Los Angeles County supervisors have their take-home cars washed two or three times a week, even as officials are urging residents to sharply cut back on water use during California's drought.

The Daily News (http://bit.ly/1KkaFOo ) cited service records Tuesday that show some of the supervisors actually had their county cars washed more frequently after Gov. Jerry Brown ordered a 25 percent reduction in urban water use earlier this year.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas had his cars washed more frequently than any of the others, documents revealed. In 2014, Ridley-Thomas had one of his Chrysler 300 Limited sedans washed an average of 2.7 times per week. After the governor's mandate in April, workers washed it 3.1 times per week.

None of the supervisors' representatives responded to questions about their use of carwashes.

Who on Earth washes their car more than once a week?!

The City Maintenance Yard is probably somewhere near the Supervisors offices, so easy enough for the Supervisor to tell their secretary to call a Yard supervisor and get them to direct one of their employees to run over to pick up the keys and take the county-owned car back to be washed and detailed, all while the Supervisor works undistracted by the petty concerns of the hoi polloi.

The true issue, however, is does the car wash recirculate its water? The Supervisors' actions exhibit arrogance and a disregard for the present circumstances. A non-recirculating car wash would be a criminal offense.

Even with the water recycled the message is loud and clear.

Once every 2 weeks is plenty even if there is no water shortage.

More than that and you are wasting taxpayer money (and water too of course). LA limit this even when there is no shortage, and really limit it when there is a shortage.
