More Napa Valley businesses hit with handicapped access lawsuits

In the last year, more than 30 Napa Valley businesses have been slammed with lawsuits from a Napa woman who says she is being discriminated against under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Most of the lawsuits, which have been filed in federal court, complain of parking lots that are out of compliance or doors and aisles that are too narrow.

The plaintiff, Pamela Koussa of Napa, says in the suits that she is paralyzed from the waist down and uses a wheelchair for mobility. Koussa declined to comment last week.

The Register first reported on the lawsuits on Oct. 1 when Koussa had only filed 21 lawsuits in Napa and American Canyon. Since then, she has filed lawsuits against several businesses in St. Helena including Lolo’s Consignment, Vineland Station, and Friedrich Company. More lawsuits have also been filed against businesses in Napa, American Canyon, Vallejo, Fairfield, Richmond and San Pablo.

if the businesses don't own the building their store is in, then she has to sue the owner of the building.

Another thing, I dealt with this issue as a community activist, who lived in an historic area, those buildings were grandfathered in when it came to ADA compliance. I don't know about the buildings in Napa.

I wish her the best of luck.
