I used to have an emergency kit for earthquakes but fires have been the main worry for about 15 years and it is soon going to be year round fire season. People need to be prepared to evacuate and their animals too! There is NO AIR to breath and it is extremely hot...a lot of people don't realize it and need to be ready to leave ASAP!

I know several people who were not only evacuated but also lost their homes in the 2003 and 2007 fires in San Diego. Both occurred the last week of Oct and school was closed for a whole week each time since we were very close to both. It happens SOOOOO FAST my friends/coworkers told me. Don't forget your meds and your pet's too.

Lilac Fire San Diego County - December
Skirball Fire (Getty Center area) - December
Creek Fire Los Angeles County - December
Thomas Fire in Los Padres - December

"This is the new normal, and this could be something that happens every year or every few years — it happens, to some degree. It's just more intense, more widespread, and we're about ready to have firefighting at Christmas," - Governor Brown

Basics for our 'Go bag' is already stashed in a storage compartment in our wagon, and we maintain a ''refrigerator' list of all the other things that need to be done; it's interesting to see how our priorities change over the years.
