Riverside County has yet to impose terms on its two biggest unions

Standing out in orange shirts, members of a Riverside County labor union flocked to a not-so-recent Board of Supervisors meeting to urge the board not to impose terms of the county’s last, best and final contract offer.

That was more than two months ago. Since then, there’s been no resolution to the county’s prolonged disputes with that union, Laborers’ International Union Local 777, and another bargaining unit, Service Employees International Union Local 721.

The board has repeatedly delayed imposing pay and other terms on LIUNA. There’s been no public discussion of the matter, with supervisors typically talking about labor matters in closed session.

“The county always hopes to reach agreement with employees’ labor unions. But at this time there is no way to say when, or if, that might happen,” county spokesman Ray Smith said Tuesday, Sept. 4.
