Carmichael surgeon arrested, accused of running $500,000 insurance fraud scheme
A Sacramento-area neurosurgeon was arrested Monday and faces charges of fraud and grand theft in an alleged insurance scheme, the state Department of Insurance said in a news release.
Dr. Laura Jean Anderson, a Carmichael resident, is accused of submitting more than $500,000 worth of fraudulent medical services reimbursement claims to the State Compensation Insurance Fund between 2013 and 2018, according to the news release.
Anderson, 64, allegedly billed the state fund for services she never provided, as well as upcoding bills to get a better payout, the release said.
Anderson ran a private practice in Arden-Arcade. According to a bio page on the Sutter Health website, she had also been affiliated with Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento and Sutter Roseville. She was also affiliated with Mercy Hospital and Methodist Hospital in Sacramento, according to bio pages on three other websites that have databases of doctors.
