Valedictorian at San Diego high school rips school staff for negligence, calls out one teacher for alcoholism in shocking speech

A valedictorian excoriated staffers at her San Diego high school in a speech that was met with both shock and applause.

Nataly Buhr, a senior at San Ysidro High School, began her graduation speech last Thursday by giving recognition to those who shaped over the last four years, including her parents and a handful of teachers she said were “so invested” in both her education and well-being. She called them “the most intelligent, inspiring and support individuals I have had the pleasure of learning from.”

But then came her remarks about school staffers.

Buhr ripped the administration for what she described as a wholly unhelpful and uninspiring experience.

“Thanks for teaching me to fend for myself: You were always unavailable to my parents and I, despite appointments,” she said to her counselor.

We were taught in the 1960s that if you removed the phrase "my parents", the line would have read "You were always unavailable to me". Otherwise, they would have been "unavailable to I"--which makes no sense.

As I said above, maybe the rules have changed (I am a fossil.)
