23 patients abused at San Francisco hospital, city officials say

Nearly two dozen patients, many of them elderly dementia sufferers, were abused by employees at a public hospital in San Francisco, health department officials said Friday.

Patients at Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center were victims of neglect and verbal and physical abuse between 2016 and this January, the city Department of Public Health said.

Six employees sent texts sharing videos and photos of themselves abusing the 23 patients, which included having “sexualized conversations” with them, according to a department statement.

A department investigation also found a pattern of patients being given “non-prescribed substances in an attempt to sedate them.”

fragile beings...heart-breaking. This is the result of a lack of certificated, vetted, and decently paid
employees with insufficient oversight. The local community college vets home health aid and nurse assistant applicants seriously, offers a strong training base, and then there is the certification process.
Health dollars. Comes down to that.
I know of that facility.
Thank you for posting on behalf of these voiceless obviously not represented.

I definitely believe that the story qualified as news that needs to be reported. There could be others out there that still need to come forward and I know that we have plenty of members from the San Francisco area.
