20-year-old California man charged with assault on American Airlines flight attendant

A 20-year-old man from Irvine, Calif. has been charged on two counts for assaulting a female flight attendant last week after he allegedly punched a woman in the face twice for accidentally bumping into him.

Brian Hsu is being charged in federal court with “interference with a flight crew and assault within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States,” the U.S. Department of Justice said Monday.

Hsu, who was seated in first class, allegedly punched a woman in the face twice on Oct. 27 on a flight from New York’s JFK Airport to John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif. The flight had to be diverted to Denver International Airport, where the man was interrogated by FBI agents.

Interfering with a flight crew carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

The American Airlines flight attendant suffered a broken nose, according to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants union. She was hospitalized for a short stay and then returned to her home base in New York.

If this defendant acts out that way when he feels slighted, how soon is he gonna do that again? Like maybe the next opportunity?

Lock him up! And for longer than that! A message can be sent to other potentially violent wannabes like him.

for the rest of his life.

Interviewer: I see you were arrested for assault and interfering with a flight crew. What happened there?

Hsu: I punched the flight attendant in the face and broke her nose because she bumped into me. It was a mistake.

Interviewer: GTFO.

Who would want this idiot around? Nobody.

I did some stupid stuff at that age, but I never deliberately hurt anybody. If he gets away with that who knows what he’ll do next.

He’s flying 1st class at 20 years old, so I’m thinking trust fund brat with no need to work.

Still…he’ll never be anything now but a (hopefully) convicted felon who has (hopefully) done time.

And may the nastiest, meanest inmates in there, bump him every damn day. See if he attacks them, and lives. Hitting women is never acceptable. Even the hard core Karen’s, though serious restraint is in order with them.

I'd suggest a mixed sentence, with a very long post custody release. Maybe 30 years with first 10 served and then 20 years of supervised release with that other 20 years holding over him so if you fails at year 19 , 29 years from now he does those 20 years. He needs a few years in custody at least, to clear his head and lower his sense of self worth. We need much longer tails on the sentences for crimes against others, violence, fraud, especially identity theft.
