Respiratory therapist gets 35 years for child porn, molestation

A former San Antonio respiratory therapist was sentenced Wednesday to 35 years in prison without parole for child pornography and molestation charges.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez made sure Edward Merlin Olson, 51, can't appeal by giving him a sentence between the 20 years his lawyer sought and the 45 years the government requested.

Earlier this year, Olson pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography, and the sexual abuse of a boy in 2003 at the former Brooks AFB in San Antonio, now known as Brooks City-Base.

Allovio testified Olson also admitted he sexually abused more than 100 boys at a children's rehabilitation facility in Tustin, Calif. Allovio said the children had brain trauma, were in comas or other catatonic states, and were as young as 6 months.
