This is what happens when people vote for anything with a "D" after its name.

The Democratic leadership knew exactly what Filner has been for the entire time he was in Congress, but they also knew that he had the greatest name recognition. The average voter knows nothing about his/her legislators other than their party affiliation, and the DLC knew that. Knowing that Filner is a mysognistic pig, a bad tempered bully and a thug, but that he had the best chance of winning the election due merely to name recognition, they backed him and achieved power.

How many people who voted for Filner knew that as a Congressman he had been arrested and charged with assault on a female airline baggage representative, pled (essentially) no contest to the charge, and got off with a $100 fine? Probably almost none. They just knew that he had a "D" after his name and that all Democrats are trustworthy, moral, honest, upstanding, pure, generous and kind hearted.

He was the perfect candidate for the usual interests.

Either he does what we want, or the skeletons roll out

I need to go back to that rabbit hole expedition by the way. But the surface is just the first layer of the onion
