9:00 a.m. "Procession" Join Fresno leg of 21-day walk Sac. to Bakersfield
1:00 p.m. Gathering Blessing of pilgrims and call to action
"Pilgrimage for a Pathway to Citizenship" Pilgrims are walking from Sacramento to Bakersfield as a gesture of sacrifice to help stop the suffering of 11 million undocumented aspiring Americans through just and humane immigration reform.
Below is information from Andy Levine of PICO about an event this Saturday, August 24. "Pilgrimage for a Pathway to Citizenship."
I hope many of you can attend the 1 PM event at St Anthony of Padua Church, Maroa & Bullard.
Also, if you are able, and want to march with the Pilgrimage meet at Shaw/Hwy 99 that morning starting at 9:00 am. Leaving at 9 a.m. from the Comfort Inn just west of Shaw and Highway 99. (Route will go from Shaw, to Brawley, to Fig Garden Loop, to Bullard, to St Anthony's). Folks don't need to RSVP for the 1p.m. action, but we are asking if possible to RSVP for the 9am procession, andy@ficpico.org so, they can have a decent sense of how big that group is going to be.
This is a great opportunity to participate in a meaningful action on the 50th Anniversary of MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech.
From Andy Levine....
Faith in Community, in collaboration with other PICO federations across the state, is in the middle of a 21-day "Pilgrimage for a Pathway to Citizenship." Next Saturday, August 24th, the Pilgrimage comes through Fresno. Faith in Community is coordinating for walkers to join the Pilgrims in an 8-mile "procession" from Shaw/Hwy. 99 that morning (starting at 9am) into Saint Anthony of Padua where, at 1pm, the Pilgrimage will be welcomed by thousands. Bishop Ochoa will bless the Pilgrims and others will make calls to action from our elected members of Congress to stand for a pathway to citizenship. Rep. Nunes has been invited - including to the other three stops the Pilgrimage will make in his district - but at this point is not expected to attend.
You do not need to RSVP for the action, but anyone interested in joining the "procession" is encouraged to let FIC know at: andy@ficpico.org. To follow the Pilgrimage: www.pilgrimageforcitizenship.
