(78,249 posts)as is Oakland. SF is slipping a little because of the influx of techies who ride those private shuttle buses down to $iliValley.
Berkeley progressivism tends to be more '60s old-school than in Oakland or SF.

(60,212 posts)is pretty darn liberal.
The East Bay is also liberal, but in a different way.
Do you want to live in an old Victorian farmhouse and raise goats or do you want to live in a postwar modern subdivision and raise chickens?

(10,893 posts)looking around, it's about the same. I still have seen a bunch of Obama bumper stickers in both cities, and have yet to see any Republican ones.

(793 posts)Hah.
Take that out on the the end of the Berkley Pier and tell it to the gulls who come to Berkeley to shit. I am going for Arcata, or Santa Cruz, or even San Francisco, as being more open cities. As a matter of fact I was at a City Council meeting in Auburn, not long ago and more got accomplished in a shorter time with less histrionics.
I worked at Berkeley for 15years in the city government and was a shop steward for most of those years. For those years, most of all decisions were left to the lowest element to figure out in any way they wanted to and Division heads and City elected folks tucked their head in the sand and did not come out often. This was in my case till about 2001, I suspect it hasn't changed much.

(793 posts)Who were lets say close friends to Managers of departments who had spent less time in the field than other workers. When it happens constantly, most of the workers especially in a division like Public Works wonder if seniority means anything. This had nothing to do with race or origin as lots of folks of all creeds wondered why they were not selected. Many times this was brought to Department Heads and they glossed over any kind of involvement then later the old, that's all over now. and next time, we will do better, yea right.
