Sacramento election update: Cofer holds lead over Guerra as vote count continues
Former Sacramento mayoral candidate Flojaune Cofer maintained a solid advantage in the race for Sacramento County's 1st Supervisorial District seat but remained below the threshold needed to avoid a November runoff, according to updated election results released Friday afternoon.
Although polls closed Tuesday and ballot counting continued, Sacramento County officials released its first update Friday but has roughly 143,000 votes left to count before July 2. So far, more than 262,000 votes have been counted, according to county election data.
According to the latest unofficial results, Cofer held 42.3% of the vote, leading Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra by 12.1 percentage points. Guerra had 30.2%. Deborah Ortiz followed with 16.8%, while Tim Riley had 10.7%.
Cofer, an epidemiologist who ran for Sacramento mayor in 2024, gained three percentage points in her quest to succeed longtime Supervisor Phil Serna, who opted not to seek reelection and endorsed Guerra. Because no candidate has surpassed 50% of the vote, the top two finishers would advance to a November runoff.
